My Approach
In addition to my light-hearted and easygoing approach, these are aspects that I use in all areas of my work that are deeply tied to my personal values.
Queer and gender-affirming
As a queer person, I understand the diverse and liberatory nature of gender identity/expression, sex assigned at birth, and sexuality/attraction. However, only you are the expert of your own experience. I aim to provide a space that feels affirming and safe enough for you to share and explore your identity if you’d like. Certainty, uncertainty, fluidity, and change, are all okay here.
Neurodivergent-affirming
Neurodiversity is a natural part of human brain diversity, and there are so many types of neurodivergence, including autism, ADHD, epilepsy, misophonia, and more. I understand that our minds and bodies all work differently, and work with you to help you find ways to navigate the world, without changing who you are. I also aim to be mindful of any accommodations or sensory needs you may have, such as light or sound sensitivity, and invite you to share these with me so that it can be as accessible as possible for you.
Weight-inclusive
I have a body liberation and Health at Every Size (HAES) perspective that wholeheartedly views all bodies of every shape, size, and ability, as worthy of love, acceptance, and care. While nourishment and movement are core components of health, I will never suggest that you try to change your body or move in a way that feels painful or restricting for you. You know your body best.
Trauma-informed, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive
Trauma is any experience that disrupts our ability to feel safe in the world, and is unique to each person. This can result from single-time events, recurring events, or systemic oppression, such as racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, ableism, fatphobia, and more. Trauma is pervasive, and can deeply affect how we interact with the world, others, and ourselves. I aim to be mindful of this and help you to gently reconnect with feelings of safety and connection, while acknowledging the existing and persisting harms of systemic oppression, and centring your autonomy and safety.
